The Driftless Region

Map-of-Minnesota-Wisconsin-Iowa-Driftless-AreaA member of the HDT team relocated to the Winona, MN area and took Happy Dancing Turtle with her! We are excited to be extending our reach into a second location – the Driftless Region. Nora will be working to fulfill our mission in southeastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin. She will be promoting sustainable living through a variety of outreach and educational activities. You can follow our Driftless Region activities on our Facebook page.

Why Driftless?

The Driftless Region is an area of southeastern Minnesota, southwestern Wisconsin, northeastern Iowa, and northwestern Illinois that was untouched by glaciers during the last ice age. This means it was spared from glacial erosion and is free of the glacial drift (sediment deposits) that were left behind to cover much of the rest of the Midwest during the last glacial retreat. This area lays claim to an incredibly diverse topography, bountiful natural resources, unique and important ecosystems, and a high concentration of organic farms. We are excited to build our connections as we extend our outreach in this area of the Midwest!

Driftless Region Eco Camp - 2020 Update

Like many of you, the Happy Dancing Turtle staff eagerly await summer, as Eco Camp is one of our favorite times of the year! Right now, summer youth programs and camps across the country are in a waiting game to see if we will be allowed to proceed with regular programming. We have been staying up to date with state/federal guidelines and regulations, communicating with other camps, and attending webinars to allow us to make an informed decision about our summer programs.  At this point, we feel that if we were allowed to proceed with programming, implementing changes necessary to ensure participant safety may come at the cost of sacrificing the quality of the programs we have offered in the past.  Therefore, we have made the decision to cancel our traditional in-person camps in order to put energy into researching what a quality distance/virtual program could look like. We have begun discussions about how we can provide meaningful, fun, engaging experiences and activities for you and your family under current circumstances.

If you would like to stay updated on summer program offerings, send us an email (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and we will add you to our list!

Public Programs in the Driftless Region
